The Mainline Fire started on the afternoon of April 7, 2026 and is located in rural Hardin and Polk County, Texas approximately 3 miles north of Votaw, Texas. At approximately 1300 on 4/7/26, Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of firefighters and heavy equipment. Texas A&M Forest Service and Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas are in joint command of the fire.
Active fire behavior with group tree torching was observed during the initial attack on the afternoon of April 8th. Firefighters using direct and indirect line construction using multiple Texas A&M Forest Service dozers to secure a perimeter. Fire activity diminished as weather conditions moderated after dark. No structures were immediately threatened and no evacuations occurred. Damage to pine plantations within the fire did occur.
Resources worked overnight and were on the firegrounds again Wednesday April 8th patrolling and mopping up hot spots. They determined the fire to be 100% contained.
