The Marks Creek Fire was reported just after noon on September 2nd, burning in timber and brush approximately 18 miles east of Prineville, Oregon on Ochoco National Forest lands. Aggressive initial attack included engines, dozers, single engine super scoopers, helicopters, large air tankers, and other air and ground resources.
The Central Oregon Fire Management Service (COFMS) Type 3 Incident Management Team, Incident Commander Fore, assumed command of the fire the morning of September 3rd. Operations focused on establishing and strengthening control lines.
COFMS Type 3 Team transitioned command of the Marks Creek Fire to Oregon Department of Forestry's Complex Incident Management Team 2, Incident Commander Matt Howard at 6:00 p.m. on September 4th. Crews continue to focus operations on reinforcing containment lines, patrolling the perimeter for spot fires and slop overs, and working to construct fireline to limit fire growth.
ODF CIMT 2 transitioned command of the fire to the Prairie Division Type 4 organization from the Ochoco National Forest at 7:00 a.m. on September 12th. Crews will continue to work on suppression repair around the perimeter of the fire.
