Wildfire Status:

The Lodgepole Fire is currently active in the Norse Peak Wilderness, situated north of Highway 410 near the Lodgepole Campground within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. As of now, the fire has burned approximately 35 acres, with only 6% of its perimeter contained. Fire activity has been primarily characterized by smoldering and creeping behavior, particularly following a rain event that occurred recently, which has helped to alleviate some of the immediate fire threats. The fire's fuels consist mainly of grass, short brush, and dead standing snags, with significant fuel loads present from previous fire scars in the area.

Fire response efforts are being coordinated by California Interagency Incident Management Team 14, with Incident Commander James Snow overseeing the operations. The team plans to transition command back to the Naches Ranger District by the end of their shift on August 19, 2024. Currently, there are eight personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts. Highway 410 remains open for travel, but visitors are advised to exercise caution due to smoke and the presence of fire crews and equipment along the route. There are no current closures of forests or campgrounds related to this wildfire.

Recent weather conditions have played a significant role in the fire's current behavior. Following thunderstorms that produced gusts of 45 to 60 mph and rainfall amounts ranging from 0.10 to 0.75 inches, the humidity levels improved but subsequently dropped to between 28 to 38 percent as dry air moved in. Today's temperatures are expected to range from 68 to 80 degrees, with significant winds anticipated in the evening, which could affect fire operations. The team is focused on improving control features and monitoring the fire's perimeter for any potential growth, with plans to engage in direct line construction as conditions allow.
