Lodgepole (WAOWF)

Wildfire Status:

The Lodgepole Fire, currently active in the Norse Peak Wilderness near Highway 410, has burned approximately 35 acres since it ignited on August 12, 2024. As of the latest reports, the fire is only 6% contained. The area is characterized by grass, short brush, and large downed debris, primarily from an older fire scar, which continues to smolder. Most of the fire's activity is currently minimal, consisting of smoldering and creeping due to recent rainfall, which has helped to reduce its intensity.

Fire response efforts are being coordinated by California Interagency Incident Management Team 14, under the command of Incident Commander James Snow. There are currently eight personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts, and they are focusing on improving established control features while monitoring the perimeter for any potential growth. The team plans to begin direct line construction if conditions permit. Highway 410 remains open, but caution is advised due to smoke and the presence of emergency equipment along the roadway.

Weather conditions have played a significant role in the current fire situation. Recent thunderstorms brought gusty winds and substantial rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 0.75 inches. Although humidity levels were initially high, they dropped to between 25% and 35% in the following days, with temperatures ranging from 65 to 80 degrees. The forecast indicates mostly cloudy skies with a possibility of light showers, and evening winds could gust up to 23 mph. Local fire authorities will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves, ensuring the public is informed of any significant changes regarding the Lodgepole Fire.
