Williams Mine Fire-GPNF (WAGPF)

Wildfire Status:

The Williams Mine Fire, ignited by lightning on August 5, 2024, is currently active in the Mt. Adams Wilderness area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. As of the latest update, the fire has grown to approximately 13,092 acres, with 31% of its perimeter contained. Firefighting efforts are focused on protecting nearby private lands and the community of Trout Lake, with a coordinated response involving 117 personnel. The incident management team is led by Incident Commander Loretta Duke, supported by a local USFS Type 3 team.

Fire agencies are actively working to establish and improve control lines while implementing contingency plans as needed. Recent weather conditions have been favorable for containment, with expected high relative humidity and cooler temperatures anticipated to limit fire activity in the short term. The next 48 hours are projected to see minimal fire behavior due to these conditions, with rain expected to further reduce the fire's spread. Firefighters are also working to manage fuels that could potentially enhance fire progression, including dead and downed woody materials.
