Yellow Fire is the 4th-largest wildfire this season in Texas, burning 5 miles east of Channing.

Texas A&M Forest Service responded to the Yellow Fire in Oldham County at 6:21 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The fire is approximately 5 miles southeast of Channing, Texas. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with Local volunteer fire departments. The fire burned in heavy brush and grass and moved rapidly on Tuesday night and Wednesday due to very high winds. Very early Wednesday morning, a cold front passed over the fire and the strong winds shifted from the southwest to out of the north/northwest changing the fire’s direction. Wind gusts were up to 55 mph.
A voluntary evacuation order from the Amarillo Office of Emergency Management for Valle de Oro and Boys Ranch was lifted on Thursday, March 12.
Road closures were in place due to heavy smoke and dangerous conditions. Although roads were reopened, please visit Drive Texas for the latest information on road closures since conditions can change.
The fire was marked 100% contained at 6 PM on Friday, March 13.
