Willard Fire has burned 540 acres, burning 8 miles west of Stratford.

The Willard Fire started on the afternoon of February 24, 2026 approximately 10 miles southwest of Stratford, Texas and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local fire departments.
This fire started during a period of elevated fire weather, including higher than normal temperatures, and low fuel moisture levels. These current conditions are resulting in a shift of large fire potential with brief periods of high resistance to control.
As of the evening of February 24, 2026, the fire is 100% contained. This is the last planned update for this fire.
