Ross Fire is the largest active wildfire in Texas, burning within the perimeter near Palo Pinto.

Latest update

The Ross Fire in Palo Pinto County started on the afternoon of August 24, 2026 under elevated fire conditions. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 12:41 pm and responded quickly. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local departments.

Heavy equipment and aviation resources are assisting with suppression efforts. 

There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place for the area over the Ross Fire.  Please avoid the area to provide a safe environment for firefighting aircraft. [NOTAM: FDC 6/9626 https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=detail_6_9626 ].  

This are no evacuations at this time. Residents are strongly encouraged to continue checking on fire conditions and remain prepared to leave if needed.
