Rest Area Fire- TX 2026

At 1:38 pm on Saturday February 7th, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a fire approximately 8 miles east of Wallisville, Texas at the south feeder road of Interstate 10. 

In coordination with local fire departments, Texas A&M Forest Service crews are responding with additional firefighters and heavy equipment. Crews are constructing containment lines around the perimeter of the fire with existing roads and using bulldozers to construct lines where necessary. 

The Rest Area Fire is actively burning in grass fuels and a 30‑year‑old pine plantation during a period of above normal temperatures and low humidity. These conditions are producing high fire behavior and creating an environment where new ignitions can start easily, spread rapidly, and become difficult for firefighters to control. Despite these challenges, crews continue to work diligently.
