Wildfire Status:

The Rest Area Fire in Gray County, Texas, has been a significant incident since it was reported on March 14, 2025. Initially spanning 1,000 acres with 0% containment, the fire's intensity was exacerbated by extreme winds reaching up to 80 mph, prompting evacuations in nearby areas including Alanreed and McLean. Fortunately, by the evening of March 14, firefighters managed to halt the fire's forward progression at County Road 29, and precipitation began to aid their efforts.

As of March 15, the fire had grown to 7,931 acres, with containment steadily improving to 50%. Fire crews have focused on mopping up and rehabilitating fire lines, indicating a shift in fire behavior. By March 16, the fire was reported as 100% contained, marking a significant achievement in the firefighting efforts.
