Texas A&M Forest Service responded to the Merritt Road Fire in Kimble County at 5 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026. The fire is approximately 18 miles southeast of Junction, Texas. The Texas A&M Forest Service worked in unified command with Local volunteer fire departments. The fire burned in tall, thick grass, oak and Junipers. Engines, bulldozers, motor graders and air tankers were used to suppress the fire in difficult rocky terrain.

The fire was declared 100% contained the evening of March 14, 2026. This is the last planned update for this fire.
