Wildfire Status:

The Hudson Fire in Bastrop County, Texas, has reached 100% containment as of November 7, 2024. The fire, which ignited on November 3, burned a total area of approximately 400 acres, primarily in pine-oak regeneration areas that were previously affected by the Bastrop County Complex Fire in 2011 and the Hidden Pines Fire in 2015. The initial growth of the fire was fueled by dry conditions and a strong southeastern wind. Firefighters engaged in mop-up operations for several days following the containment to extinguish any remaining heat within 200 feet of the containment lines.

Local fire departments, including Smithville VFD, North Bastrop County Fire Rescue, and Bastrop VFD, provided mutual aid to the Heart of the Pines VFD. The Texas A&M Forest Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife also contributed resources, deploying heavy equipment and aerial support during the initial attack on the fire. As part of ongoing safety measures, fire crews will remain in the area for up to ten days to further assess and rehabilitate containment lines.

Evacuation notices for residents along Gotier Trace Road and Park Road 1C were lifted by the evening of November 4, with additional notices lifted for homes off Pines Park Drive the following morning. Support for livestock was coordinated through Bastrop County Agrilife Extension, and a temporary human shelter was established but closed due to lack of use after the first night. The community is encouraged to reach out to local recovery services for any ongoing support needs.

Fire management is monitoring weather conditions, which have remained dry, to prevent any potential flare-ups. Overall, the situation has stabilized significantly, and fire agencies are focusing on rehabilitation efforts to ensure long-term safety for the affected areas.
