Grape Vine Creek Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Grape Vine Creek Fire in Gray County, south of Lefors along HW 283, is currently 100% contained, with a total size of 34,883 acres. The fire started on February 26, 2024, and has been managed by the Southern Area Blue Team, which will soon transition management back to the Texas A&M Forest Service local unit. Crews have created and are maintaining control lines around the fire to prevent further spread.
As of the latest update on March 7, 2024, there are 26 personnel actively working on the fire, with resources like dozers, engines, and aerial support available as needed. The cooler weather has helped reduce fire behavior, but there is still potential for active fire behavior due to changing weather conditions. The primary fuels involved in the fire are grass and brush, and the safety of crews remains the highest priority.
Current weather conditions include considerably colder temperatures, scattered showers, and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. The additional moisture and cooler temperatures are expected to reduce the likelihood of further fire spread, allowing crews to reinforce fire lines and continue mop-up operations. Air support will be utilized to address any flare-ups as needed.
