Combs Fire (TXTXS)

Wildfire Status:

The Combs Fire, which began on the evening of March 3, 2025, in Gray County, Texas, has reached a size of 357 acres and has been fully contained at 100%. The fire originated near Highway 273 southeast of Pampa, leading to road closures due to heavy smoke impacting visibility. Initially, southwest winds were driving the fire northeast through difficult terrain, complicating firefighting efforts. Fortunately, there have been no evacuations or threats to structures reported.

Firefighting resources have been coordinated under a unified command led by the Texas A&M Forest Service, which was requested shortly after the fire's inception. Various local fire departments, including those from Pampa, Lefors, and Miami, among others, have been actively involved in combating the blaze. Motor graders have been deployed to create fire breaks and enhance control lines for better containment.

Recent weather conditions have significantly improved the situation, as beneficial rainfall has occurred over the fire area, effectively halting any active fire activity. Crews have continued to monitor and patrol the site, ensuring that the south flank of the fire is secured against potential rekindling. With no immediate concerns reported, resources are being gradually released as the incident transitions into a more manageable situation.
