Brown Fire is the 3rd-largest active wildfire in Texas, burning 29 miles east of Logan.

The Brown Fire started on August 9, 2026, in Oldham County and was responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 11:07 am and quickly responded. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local fire departments.
Heavy equipment and engines from TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) are engaged and facing rough terrain with access issues from sandy soil. Forward progression has been stopped. Aviation resources are in the area to assist in suppression efforts.
FINAL UPDATE August 10, 2026 9:20 p.m. - The Brown Fire is 100% contained. All state resources have been released from the fire.
