Homestead Complex (ORUPF)

Wildfire Status:

The Homestead Complex, a wildfire complex that began on July 19, 2024, has currently consumed approximately 9,731 acres and is located thirty miles northeast of Glide, Oregon. The complex consists of several fires, including Bullpup, Fuller Lake, Horse Heaven Creek, Lost Bucket, No Man, Reynolds Butte, and Salmon 33. As of now, the fire is 33% contained, with the Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 7 taking command of the situation on September 13, 2024.

In terms of firefighting efforts, there are currently around 620 personnel assigned to the incident. Firefighters are employing both direct and indirect tactics to suppress the flames, with observed behavior primarily consisting of minimal smoldering and creeping. The main fuels involved include timber litter, brush, and understory, with heavy fuels continuing to be consumed. Sunshine is expected to increase drying trends in the coming week, which could lead to additional heat and potential surface fire spread as conditions change.

Weather conditions are crucial in the firefighting response, and while current conditions have allowed for some control, the forecast indicates a trend towards drier weather. This could create challenges as the drying of fuels may lead to increased fire activity. Fire management teams are closely monitoring these shifts and adjusting strategies accordingly. Furthermore, emergency closure orders are in place in the affected areas to ensure public safety while firefighting operations continue.
