Warner Peak Fire (ORSHR)

Wildfire Status:

The Warner Peak Fire, which ignited on August 5, 2024, is currently active within the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, located approximately 6 miles east of Plush, Oregon. As of August 19, the fire has consumed an area of 65,866 acres, with 85% of its perimeter now contained. Fire agencies are employing a full suppression strategy, focusing on managing the uncontained sections primarily in the southeastern part of the fire perimeter.

A total of 353 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts, and while the fire has shown moderate behavior with some interior pockets of fuel still burning, the overall situation is improving. The estimated containment date is projected for September 5, 2024. Fire crews are actively monitoring the situation, with planned actions targeting areas where the fire remains uncontained.

Current weather conditions are concerning, as Monday is anticipated to be the driest day of the week, with humidity levels dropping into the single digits in some areas. Breezy winds are expected in the afternoon and evening, which could influence fire behavior. However, a low-pressure system later in the week may increase humidity and potentially bring precipitation, which could assist in suppression efforts. The outlook for the next 72 hours indicates that while interior fuels will continue to smolder, the overall fire activity is expected to remain manageable.
