Warner Peak Fire (ORSHR)

Wildfire Status:

The Warner Peak Fire, which ignited on August 5, 2024, is currently active within the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, approximately six miles east of Plush, Oregon. As of August 19, the fire has burned a substantial area of 65,866 acres and is reported to be 85% contained. The fire's management employs a full suppression strategy, focusing efforts on controlling the remaining uncontained perimeter primarily in the southeastern section.

A total of 353 personnel are currently engaged in firefighting efforts, led by Incident Commander Carl Schwope and Deputy Incident Commander Caleb Finch. Fire activity has been characterized by moderate behavior, particularly in pockets of fuel on the fire's interior. Planned actions for the coming days include continued efforts to secure the uncontained perimeter while monitoring the interior, where smoldering and some open flames may persist.

Current weather conditions present both challenges and potential relief. The region is experiencing dry conditions, with humidity levels expected to drop into the single digits, which could exacerbate fire behavior. Breezy winds are also anticipated in the afternoons and evenings. However, a low-pressure system later in the week may increase humidity levels and possibly introduce precipitation, providing some aid to firefighting operations. The estimated containment date for the Warner Peak Fire has been projected for September 5, 2024, depending on the effectiveness of ongoing suppression efforts and weather conditions.
