Warner Peak Fire (ORSHR)

Wildfire Status:

The Warner Peak Fire, which ignited on August 5, 2024, is currently active within the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, located approximately six miles east of Plush, Oregon. As of August 19, the fire has consumed approximately 65,866 acres, with 85% of its perimeter contained. The incident is being managed under a full suppression strategy, and the estimated date for full containment is projected for September 5, 2024. Fire crews are focused on addressing the uncontained perimeter in the southeastern section of the fire, where moderate fire behavior is still being observed.

The response to the Warner Peak Fire has mobilized a total of 353 personnel, including firefighters and support staff. Significant events include moderate fire behavior primarily in the southeastern part of the fire, where interior pockets of fuel are still burning. The current weather conditions pose challenges; the area is experiencing low humidity levels, potentially dipping into single digits, which could exacerbate fire activity. Additionally, breezy afternoon and evening winds are anticipated, contributing to fire risks.

Looking ahead, fire management teams are preparing for changing weather conditions as a low-pressure system is expected to move into the region later in the week.
