Copperfield Fire (OR98S)

Wildfire Status:

The Copperfield Fire, located approximately 10 miles east of Chiloquin, Oregon, has been active since September 1, 2024, and currently spans 3,822 acres. As of September 11, 2024, the fire is reported to be 94% contained, with 553 personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts. The incident is being led by the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) with Incident Commander Tyler McCarty overseeing the operations. While significant progress has been made in containing the fire, heavy fuels continue to smolder within the perimeter, necessitating ongoing mop-up operations.

Firefighting agencies have implemented various strategies to manage the situation, including snagging and repair work in certain areas. The planned actions also involve assisting with initial attack efforts within the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone as needed.
