Copperfield Fire (OR98S)

Wildfire Status:

The Copperfield Fire, located approximately 10 miles east of Chiloquin, Oregon, has burned an estimated 3,822 acres since its outbreak on September 1, 2024. As of September 11, 2024, the fire is reported to be 94% contained, with fire management teams estimating full containment by September 15, 2024. The incident is currently being overseen by the Oregon Department of Forestry, with Incident Commander Tyler McCarty leading a team of 553 personnel actively engaged in suppression efforts.

Firefighters have encountered significant challenges due to heavy fuels, particularly pine, grass, and brush, which continue to smolder within the fire perimeter. As part of their strategy, crews are focused on mop-up operations and assisting with initial attack efforts within the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) area. Planned actions include snagging operations and beginning repair work in some affected zones.
