Rush Fire (OKWMR)

Wildfire Status:

The Rush Fire, which began on October 24, 2024, in Comanche County, Oklahoma, is currently burning primarily within the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. As of November 2, 2024, the fire has consumed approximately 12,488 acres, with 87% of its perimeter contained. There are currently 200 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts. The incident was transferred from the Southern Area Red Team back to the home unit at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, indicating a shift in management strategy as firefighting operations continue.

The fire's behavior has been characterized by minimal activity, primarily involving backing, creeping, and smoldering, with significant fuels such as timber and tall grass involved.
