Davis Fire (NVHTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Davis Fire, which ignited on September 7, 2024, near Davis Creek Regional Park, located approximately 20 miles south of Reno, Nevada, has grown to 5,824 acres and is currently 92% contained. The firefighting efforts are being led by the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 1, which took over management of the fire on September 9. The team is collaborating with local agencies to enhance the fire response and containment capabilities.

As of now, there are 342 personnel actively engaged in firefighting operations. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and while significant progress has been made in containment, certain areas within the fire perimeter remain closed to the public. The USDA Forest Service has reduced the emergency area closure order, but several National Forest System lands and specific trails are still off-limits to ensure safety and facilitate firefighting efforts.

Weather conditions are critical to fire management as they can influence fire behavior and the success of containment strategies. Continued monitoring of these conditions is essential as the situation evolves and firefighting teams transition back to managing the forest area. The ongoing assessment by the Forest Service's Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will also provide valuable insights into the post-fire recovery efforts.
