Burnt Canyon Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Burnt Canyon Fire, located in a remote and steep terrain approximately 65 miles southeast of Ely, Nevada, has reached a size of 1,068 acres. As of June 20, 2025, the fire is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. The incident, which originated on June 11, 2025, was caused by lightning. Currently, the fire incident is under the management of the Bureau of Land Management, with a minimal number of personnel assigned to the site—only three individuals are actively monitoring the situation.
Weather conditions in the area pose ongoing challenges, as Red Flag Warnings are in effect. Gusty winds from the south to southwest are expected, with potential wind speeds exceeding 20 mph and relative humidity levels dropping below 15%. This increased wind activity, combined with high temperatures, can create potential risks for fire resurgence, despite the current containment status. Overnight moisture recovery is anticipated to be poor, further complicating the management efforts.
As the fire is now in a monitored status, fire agencies will continue to keep a close watch on the area to mitigate any potential flare-ups, particularly with the forecasted weather conditions. The focus remains on ensuring that the fire remains contained and that any necessary resources are available should the situation change.
