Wildfire Status:
The Burnt Canyon Fire is currently active and burning in remote, steep terrain approximately 65 miles southeast of Ely, Nevada. As of the latest update, the fire has consumed around 1,068 acres and is 40% contained. The fire was ignited by lightning on June 11, 2025, and has shown intermittent, wind-driven runs with occasional torching, resulting in increased acreage overnight. Smoke from the fire has been visible along Highway 93 north of Pioche.
Firefighting efforts are being coordinated by the Bureau of Land Management, with around 80 personnel currently deployed to combat the blaze. Crews are actively constructing control lines to secure the fire's perimeter. The situation is challenging due to the terrain and current weather conditions.
Weather conditions are contributing to the fire's activity, with warm, dry, and breezy weather expected to persist. Temperatures are forecasted to be 2-8 degrees above normal, with relative humidity values dipping below 15%.
