Big Hollow Fire (MTMTS)

Wildfire Status:

The Big Hollow Fire, which ignited on August 23, 2024, approximately 13 miles west of Grant, Montana, has reached a size of 3,449 acres and is now fully contained at 100%. The fire began under the management of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and was suspected to have been caused by lightning. As of September 3, 2024, the fire transitioned to a Type 5 Incident Command structure, indicating that it is no longer actively burning and is under routine monitoring.

Currently, a total of 75 personnel are assigned to the incident, focusing on mopping up operations and patrolling the area for any signs of increased fire behavior. The fire’s behavior has been described as low, with any remaining activity confined to the interior of the fire perimeter. Planned actions include regular patrols to monitor the situation, as there is minimal potential for spread at this time. The estimated containment date is projected to be October 31, 2024.
