Big Hollow Fire (MTMTS)

Wildfire Status:

The Big Hollow Fire, located approximately 13 miles west of Grant, Montana, has reached full containment at 100%. The fire, which ignited on August 23, 2024, suspected to be caused by lightning, has burned an area of 3,449 acres. As of now, the fire is no longer actively burning and has transitioned to a Type 5 Incident Command structure, indicating a reduced response level from fire agencies.

Currently, the incident is being managed by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, with a total of 75 personnel assigned to monitor the situation. Although the fire has been contained, firefighters are conducting periodic patrols to assess any potential resurgence in fire activity, particularly in the interior areas where fire behavior remains low. The estimated date for complete incident closure is set for October 31, 2024.

Weather conditions in the area pose some concerns, with thunderstorms and high wind speeds reported. This could potentially affect fire behavior, although current assessments indicate minimal spread potential. Fire managers remain vigilant, prepared to respond should any significant changes occur in the fire's activity.
