Cloudrest 2025
Cloudrest is the 2nd-largest wildfire this season in Montana, burning 36 miles southeast of Butte.

The Cloudrest Fire was reported on August 14, 2025, around 3:44 p.m., from the Alert West camera system. It is located approximately 15 miles north of Virginia City, MT. The fire is burning in thick subalpine fir timber with a heavy dead and downed fuel component. The cause of the fire was determined to be from a thunderstorm. The fire is burning at 8,000 feet in elevation.
On August 30, 2025, at 6 PM, Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 8 took over command of the Fire from Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team 6. September 8, 2025, at 7AM, NWCIMT transferred command of the fire to a local Type 3 Incident Management Team. The Type 3 Incident Management Team transferred command back to the local Ranger District fire staff on September 17, 2025.
