Jenkins Creek Fire (MNSUF)

Wildfire Status:

The Jenkins Creek Fire, which ignited on May 12, 2025, has rapidly expanded to over 16,332 acres and remains at 0% containment as of the latest update. Located near Jenkins Creek, approximately 15 miles southeast of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, the fire has been fueled by hot temperatures, low humidity, and strong south winds. The intense conditions have led to extreme fire behavior, including crown fires, particularly in areas infested by spruce budworm, which have resulted in an abundance of combustible material.

In response to the fire, the Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team, under Incident Commander Brian Jenkins, has mobilized significant resources, including 193 personnel, multiple engines, bulldozers, and aerial support. Firefighting efforts are focused on full suppression tactics, protecting structures, and establishing containment lines. Evacuations have been ordered for nearby communities, including Cadotte Lake Campground, and several roads remain closed due to active fire conditions.

Local communities are actively supporting firefighting efforts and assisting displaced residents through established evacuation centers. A community meeting is scheduled for May 19, 2025, to provide updates and coordination for those affected by the fire.
