Munger Shaw Fire (MNMNS)

Wildfire Status:

The Munger Shaw Fire, located approximately ten miles southeast of Cotton, Minnesota, is currently active and has reached a size of 1,600 acres. As of May 18, 2025, the fire is 75% contained, with firefighting efforts ongoing since it was detected on May 12, 2025. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and firefighters from the Superior National Forest are actively engaged in managing the fire, which has prompted a public safety warning urging local residents to avoid the area. Drone use is prohibited as a safety measure for both the public and fire personnel.

Currently, there are 51 personnel on-site working to contain the fire, which primarily involves timber and lowland fuels. The fire behavior is characterized as moderate and smoldering, with no significant growth expected in the immediate future. Planned actions include monitoring control lines, continuing mop-up operations, and initiating suppression repair work. The estimated containment date for the fire is projected for May 28, 2025.
