Wildfire Status:

The Black Eagle Fire, detected on August 5, 2024, is currently burning approximately 12 miles west of Forney in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The fire has grown to an estimated size of 6,451 acres and is primarily impacting areas dominated by lodgepole and subalpine fir. As of the latest update, there is no containment achieved, with the fire being completely active and currently affecting the region's timber and brush.

Firefighting efforts are underway, with 25 personnel assigned to manage the incident. The incident commander, Rocky Opliger from the California Interagency Incident Management Team 4, is overseeing operations aimed at controlling the blaze. Despite the challenging conditions, additional resources have been ordered to support the containment efforts. The estimated date for achieving containment is set for October 31, 2024.

Weather conditions have recently provided some relief, with a wetting rain and even snow reported in the area. These favorable conditions are crucial as firefighting crews attempt to take advantage of the moisture to make progress on containment. However, the region's fuel loads, which vary significantly with elevation and aspect, continue to pose a challenge to fire control efforts. Evacuations may be in place, and updates on the situation can be accessed through various online resources, including operational video updates and official incident maps.
