Big Creek Fire
Wildfire Status:
The active wildfire, known as the Post Fire, has currently burned approximately 148 acres in the Northern Rockies region, specifically north of US Highway 12 and east of the Mocus Point Trailhead. As of June 13, 2025, a total of 200 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts, with the Northern Rockies Incident Management Team #5 (led by Sampson) scheduled to take command of the incident on June 14. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and remains undetermined at this time.
Firefighting crews are focusing their efforts on preventing the fire from impacting US Highway 12, with plans to assess all options for direct and indirect attack opportunities. Although no official road closures have been implemented, travelers are advised to avoid stopping near the fire area and may experience traffic delays. The current weather conditions are somewhat favorable for firefighting, as a trough is moving through the region, bringing showers and thunderstorms, especially in the mountainous areas. However, the potential for small hail and lightning exists, which could complicate firefighting efforts.
Looking ahead, weather conditions are expected to shift to hotter and drier over the weekend, which could increase fire activity. Fire agencies are preparing for these changes and are implementing strategies to mitigate any adverse impacts from the fire, ensuring the safety of both the firefighting personnel and the public.
