Wildfire Status:

The Big Creek Fire, located 9.5 miles west of Stevensville, Montana, is currently being managed as a low threat. The fire, which spans approximately 75 acres and is situated in challenging, rocky terrain, has shown minimal signs of activity since all known hotspots were extinguished in late May. Firefighters, utilizing both ground and aerial resources, have been actively patrolling the perimeter and have not detected any new areas of heat. The Big Creek Trail has been reopened, although caution is advised near mile marker 6.2 due to debris.

Current weather conditions are favorable for firefighting efforts, with cool and wet weather expected to persist for the next few days. This could help mitigate fire activity as fuels continue to dry out. However, a warming trend is anticipated over the weekend, which may increase the potential for rekindling. Fire managers remain vigilant, conducting ongoing patrols to ensure full containment of the fire until it is deemed completely extinguished. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the incident is being overseen by the Stevensville Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest.
