Wildfire Status:
The Big Creek Fire, located approximately 9.5 miles west of Stevensville, Montana, has been assessed as a low threat following its detection on May 7, 2025. Currently, the fire covers an area of 75 acres and is situated in challenging, rocky, and steep terrain up to the snow line. Firefighters have successfully extinguished all visible hotspots, and both ground and aerial resources are actively patrolling the perimeter. No additional areas of heat have been detected, and the potential for the fire to rekindle is considered low at this time.
In response to the situation, fire management teams have lifted the closure order for the Big Creek Trail, allowing access once again; however, caution is advised due to debris near mile marker 6.2. Firefighters will continue to patrol the area until full containment is achieved, and it is recommended that stock not be taken past mile marker 5.1 to ensure safety.
Weather conditions are currently favorable, with cool and wet weather expected to persist over the next couple of days. A warming trend is anticipated to develop over the weekend, which may lead to increased visibility of interior smoke as the fuels begin to dry out. Fire managers remain vigilant in monitoring the situation and will adjust resources as necessary to ensure the safety of both the public and the environment.
