Billy Creek Fire (IDIDS)

Wildfire Status:

The Billy Creek Fire, which began on July 3, 2024, near the banks of the Snake River along the Idaho/Washington state line, is currently reported to cover an area of 3,185 acres. As of July 10, the fire has achieved a containment level of 74%, with fire personnel expressing confidence that the North, South, and West sides of the fire perimeter are secure against further growth. Fire activity has been described as low, with only some hot spots remaining active. The Northern Rockies Team 1 Complex Incident Management Team has been in command since July 7, actively working to monitor and manage the situation.

Currently, there are no closures or evacuations in place for the surrounding areas, indicating that the situation has stabilized to a significant degree. The fire is burning primarily in short grass and brush, with the terrain presenting challenges due to the steep canyons. Efforts to suppress the fire include the use of unmanned aerial systems equipped with infrared cameras to detect hidden hot spots. Crews have been working diligently to improve fire lines and conduct suppression repair work in the affected areas.

Weather conditions are currently favorable for firefighting efforts, with temperatures expected to be cooler than the previous day, ranging from 90°F to 100°F, and humidity levels in the mid-teens. Northwest winds are predicted to gust between 20-25 mph in the afternoons, which could impact fire behavior but is not expected to contribute significantly to fire growth. The outlook for the next few days suggests that the probability of fire spread will decrease, and minimal fire behavior is expected as containment efforts continue.
