2024 Valley Fire (IDIDS)

Wildfire Status:

The 2024 Valley Fire, which ignited on October 4, 2024, approximately one mile east of Boise, has progressed significantly but is nearing containment. As of the latest update, the fire has burned approximately 9,904 acres, with 95% of its perimeter now contained. Initial firefighting efforts were effective in stopping the fire from reaching nearby residential areas, thanks largely to the quick response from the Bureau of Land Management, Boise Fire Department, and other local agencies, who mobilized hotshot crews, engines, dozers, and aerial resources to combat the flames.

Firefighting crews utilized various tactics, including the establishment of containment lines using bulldozers and conducting controlled burns to reduce available fuels. These operations were crucial in managing the fire's spread, particularly on the northeast side, where denser timber fuels were present. Road closures were implemented for safety, affecting the junction of Highway 21 and Warm Springs Road, as well as nearby schools during the fire's early stages.

As of now, there are 159 personnel actively engaged in fire suppression and recovery efforts. The focus has shifted to completing suppression repair and seeding activities, ensuring the area is restored and prepared for regrowth. Weather conditions have played a role in firefighting strategies, although specific current weather details were not provided.
