Wildfire Status:
The Flat Fire, located approximately one mile northeast of Pioneerville in Boise County, Idaho, has been active since August 5, 2024, following a thunderstorm that ignited the blaze. As of August 26, 2024, the fire has burned approximately 3,734 acres, with 61% of its perimeter contained. The fire is currently not threatening any structures and is moving eastward away from the community. Due to reduced fire behavior, the management of the fire will transition to a Type 4 organization from the Idaho Department of Lands on August 27, which will continue to monitor hot spots and patrol the fire perimeter.
Currently, there are 198 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts, which include patrolling the fire's edge and performing mop-up operations as necessary. The fire behavior has been characterized as minimal, with smoldering and creeping observed within the perimeter. The estimated containment date is projected for September 15, 2024, as crews continue to assess and manage the situation.
Weather conditions are a concern, as an upper-level system is expected to bring a cold front across the Pacific Northwest, resulting in drier and windier conditions. While the immediate forecast predicts minimal fire activity, the potential for elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions is anticipated next week, which could influence firefighting efforts. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided only if significant changes occur.
