Wildfire Status:
The Flat Fire, located approximately one mile northeast of Pioneerville in Boise County, Idaho, has been active since August 5, 2024, following a thunderstorm in the area. As of the latest update, the fire has burned approximately 3,734 acres and is 61% contained. Crews from the Boise National Forest initially responded to the incident, and the Idaho Department of Lands took over management on August 8. Fortunately, no structures are currently threatened, and the fire is moving east, away from the community of Pioneerville.
Fire management is transitioning to a Type 4 organization on August 27, which will focus on monitoring and patrolling the fire perimeter, particularly along the 2016 Pioneer Fire burn scar, to address any potential hot spots. The current fire behavior is minimal, characterized primarily by smoldering and creeping, and no significant movement is expected. Personnel on the ground currently number around 198, and they will continue mopping up and performing suppression repairs where necessary.
Weather conditions are a concern as an upper-level system from southern Canada is projected to bring a cold front across the Pacific Northwest, leading to drier and windier conditions on Tuesday. Hot and dry weather is expected to persist throughout the week, with potential for elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions next week. Fire crews are prepared to adapt to these changing conditions to ensure ongoing suppression efforts are effective. This will be the final update unless significant fire activity occurs.
