Snag Fire (IDBOF)

Wildfire Status:

The Snag Fire, located approximately 9.5 miles east of Cascade, Idaho, has now burned an area of 33,437 acres and is currently 90% contained. The fire, which ignited on August 5, 2024, was caused by a combination of lightning and natural factors. As of now, the command of the firefighting efforts has transitioned from an Incident Management Team back to the Boise National Forest, with updates being directed to their Facebook page for any further information.

Firefighting resources are limited, with only two personnel currently engaged in monitoring the situation. The fire behavior has been characterized by minimal activity, primarily smoldering and creeping, with no significant growth expected. Planned actions include monitoring hotspots on the northern perimeter and executing direct attacks should these hotspots threaten containment lines. Suppression repair measures are nearing completion, with dozer and hand lines fully addressed.

Weather conditions have been relatively favorable for firefighting efforts. Recent temperatures have ranged from the low to mid-70s, with humidity levels in the low 20s. Winds have been calm for the most part, with some gusts reaching up to 10 mph. Forecasts for the upcoming days predict a drop in temperatures to around 70°F, increased humidity in the upper teens, and stronger southwest winds gusting between 15-20 mph. Importantly, there is a high likelihood of wetting rain on Wednesday and Thursday, which could further assist in extinguishing the remaining hotspots and aiding containment efforts.
