Snag Fire (IDBOF)

Wildfire Status:

The Snag Fire, located approximately 9.5 miles east of Cascade, Idaho, has been active since August 5, 2024. Currently, the fire has consumed an area of 33,437 acres and is reported to be 90% contained. Fire behavior has been characterized by minimal activity, primarily creeping and smoldering, with no significant growth expected. The command of the fire response has recently been transferred back to the Boise National Forest from an Incident Management Team, and further updates will be posted on their Facebook page.

Fire agencies are focusing their efforts on monitoring hotspots along the northern perimeter while conducting suppression repairs that are nearing completion. The suppression repair work on dozer lines and hand lines has been fully completed. Personnel on the scene has been reduced to two, reflecting the transition towards a more stable situation. Planned actions include direct attack on any hotspots that could threaten the containment lines.

Weather conditions have been relatively favorable for firefighting efforts, with temperatures hovering in the low to mid-70s and humidity levels in the low 20s. There have been calm winds, although gusts up to 10 mph have been observed in certain areas. Forecasts indicate that temperatures will remain around 70 degrees with humidity dropping into the upper teens, while increased southwest winds are expected to gust up to 20 mph. However, the outlook for Wednesday and Thursday anticipates over 90% chance of rain, which may further aid in containment efforts.
