Middle Fork Complex Fire: Bulldog and Nellie (IDBOF)

Wildfire Status:

The Middle Fork Complex Fire, which includes the Bulldog and Nellie fires, is currently active in the Boise National Forest, located approximately seven miles east of Garden Valley, Idaho. As of now, the fire has burned approximately 61,495 acres and is 95% contained. The incident command has recently transferred from an Incident Management Team back to the Boise National Forest, and no further updates will be posted on the incident page; instead, residents and interested parties are encouraged to visit the Boise National Forest's Facebook page for updates.

The fires were ignited by a lightning storm that moved through the area on August 5, 2024, leading to the initial Anderson Fire, followed by the Bulldog and Nellie fires. The fires have been challenging to manage due to the rugged terrain, which complicates access for firefighting resources. Currently, there are 26 personnel assigned to the incident, focusing on patrol and monitoring of fire lines, along with mop-up operations as necessary.

Weather conditions are expected to change over the weekend, with high pressure building and bringing a mild and drier air mass. Temperatures are forecasted to rise as winds remain light and terrain driven. These stable conditions may impact smoke ventilation and mixing heights in the area. Fire behavior has been primarily characterized by minimal activity, with creeping and smoldering observed, although there is potential for some areas to reactivate with surface fire. The fire management strategy has included both confinement and full suppression tactics, with significant progress noted in suppression repair efforts.
