Middle Fork Complex Fire: Bulldog and Nellie (IDBOF)

Wildfire Status:

The Middle Fork Complex Fire, which includes the Bulldog and Nellie fires, is currently active in the Boise National Forest, spanning approximately 61,495 acres. As of October 24, 2024, containment efforts have been successful, with 95% of the fire perimeter secured. The incident began on August 5, 2024, following a lightning storm that ignited multiple fires in the area. Due to the steep and rugged terrain, access for firefighting efforts has been challenging, but a small team of 26 personnel remains on-site to monitor and manage the situation.

Fire management has transitioned from an Incident Management Team back to the local Boise National Forest unit. Planned actions include ongoing patrols and monitoring of fire lines, as well as mopping up hot spots as necessary. Suppression repair efforts have been nearly completed, with dozer and hand lines both reported at 99% completion. Fire behavior has mostly been minimal, characterized by smoldering and creeping, with low chances of active fire growth impacting nearby values at risk.

Weather conditions in the area are expected to improve over the weekend, with high pressure set to bring warmer and drier air. However, the stable air mass could affect ventilation and mixing heights, so fire personnel will continue to monitor these changes closely. Overall, the combined fire strategy for the Nellie and Bulldog fires has seen 57% of the area managed for confinement and 43% for full suppression, indicating a controlled but cautious approach as the situation progresses.
