Wildfire Status:
The Bulltrout Fire, ignited by lightning on July 24, 2024, is currently situated approximately 35 miles northeast of Lowman, Idaho, along Idaho State Highway 21. The fire has spread due to steep terrain and challenging access, with 92% of its perimeter now contained as of the latest updates. The fire has burned an area of 271 acres, and while minimal activity has been noted recently, it continues to smolder in heavy fuel areas. The Northern Rockies Complex Management Team 5, led by Incident Commander Rick Connell, has been managing the fire since August 10, 2024.
As of now, there are no evacuation orders in place, but a closure around the fire perimeter is enforced to facilitate ongoing fire suppression efforts. Fire agencies such as the Boise National Forest, Idaho Department of Lands, and Bureau of Land Management are currently under Stage 1 fire restrictions in the West Central Mountains Fire Restrictions Zone. The fire management strategy is focused on monitoring and patrolling the area, with no significant threats to the containment lines expected at this time.
Weather conditions in the area are a concern, with a Red Flag Warning issued due to low humidity and gusty winds. Relative humidity levels have dropped to the 10-15% range, and temperatures have risen into the 80s and mid-90s. South winds are expected to strengthen, with gusts potentially exceeding 30 mph, particularly before a cold front arrives, which will bring cooler temperatures and a chance of precipitation over the weekend. These factors could influence fire behavior, but the forecast suggests a low probability of significant fire activity moving forward.
