Wildfire Status:
The Bulltrout Fire, which ignited from a lightning strike on July 24, 2024, is currently located approximately 35 miles northeast of Lowman, Idaho, near Idaho State Highway 21. The fire has spread due to challenging terrain and unfavorable weather conditions, but as of now, it is reported to be 92% contained. Although the total area affected by the fire is approximately 271 acres, minimal fire activity has been observed recently, with heavy fuels smoldering but posing little threat to containment lines. The incident is being managed by the Northern Rockies Complex Management Team 5, with Rick Connell serving as the Incident Commander.
Fire agencies, including the Boise National Forest, Idaho Department of Lands, and Bureau of Land Management, have implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions in the surrounding area to mitigate further fire risks. Currently, no evacuations have been ordered, although a closure around the fire perimeter remains in effect to facilitate suppression efforts. The response includes ongoing monitoring and patrolling of the fire area, with a focus on ensuring the fire does not spread outside established control lines.
Weather conditions in the region are a concern, as a Red Flag Warning is currently in place due to low humidity levels and gusty south winds. Relative humidity has dropped to between 10-15%, and winds have been reported gusting over 25 mph, which may pose challenges for firefighting efforts. However, a cold front is expected to arrive soon, bringing cooler temperatures and potentially higher humidity, along with a chance of showers over the weekend. Fire management teams are hopeful that these changes in weather will assist in further containment efforts as they continue to monitor the situation closely.
