Buckhorn Fire (AZSCA)

Wildfire Status:

The Buckhorn Fire, which ignited on July 10, 2024, at approximately 12:23 PM, has currently burned an area of 1,006 acres and is in monitor status. The fire's perimeter is approximately 51% contained. There is an area closure implemented along the Black River for the safety of both the public and firefighters, with adjustments being made based on ongoing fire activity.

In terms of the firefighting response, there are currently no personnel assigned to active firefighting efforts as the situation is being monitored. The incident is being managed by Randy Hopkins, the Incident Commander from the San Carlos Apache Tribe. The primary fuels involved in this wildfire are timber, tall grass, and brush, and the fire behavior has been characterized as minimal with smoldering observed.

Current weather conditions pose some concerns, with thunderstorms, lightning, and downdrafts expected in the area. These factors could potentially influence fire behavior and complicate containment efforts.
