Wildfire Status:

As of July 18, 2024, the Freeman Fire, which ignited on July 11 due to a lightning strike near Oak Well Camp, is fully contained at 32,568 acres. The rapid spread of the fire was exacerbated by a wind shift shortly after it started, necessitating the evacuation of residents in Willow Spring Ranch. Fortunately, fire crews have successfully established containment lines, and all fire resources have been released following the complete containment.

The firefighting efforts were supported by favorable weather conditions throughout the incident, including cooler temperatures and increased humidity, which helped to minimize fire activity during the nights. As of the latest updates, 50 personnel were involved in monitoring and patrolling the area to ensure no flare-ups occurred. The incident commander, Chris Rubio from the Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM), oversaw the operations, and the established containment lines have held firm.

Looking ahead, fire agencies remain vigilant, especially with potential weather concerns noted, such as extreme temperatures and high winds associated with afternoon thunderstorms. While the immediate threat has been mitigated, ongoing assessments and monitoring will continue to ensure public safety and the integrity of the containment lines.
