Wildfire Status:
As of July 7, 2025, the Beaver Dam Fire in southern Carbon County, Wyoming, has been declared contained and controlled as of July 6. The fire, which was reported on July 3, reached a final size of 6 acres and was ignited by lightning. The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) confirmed the cause, and a transition to a Type V Incident Commander occurred on July 5. This transition indicates a shift in management and resources as the situation stabilized. The forest closure order related to the fire will be rescinded today, allowing for the reopening of the affected areas.
The response to the Beaver Dam Fire was swift and aggressive, with initial firefighting efforts involving local engines from the U.S. Forest Service, Jackson County, Colorado, and Encampment, Wyoming. Notably, Operation Sky Hammer, an initial attack helicopter program in the USFS Rocky Mountain Region, played a crucial role by dropping 50,000 gallons of water on the fire using two Type I helicopters on July 4. The success of these efforts contributed to the rapid containment of the fire.
In terms of current weather conditions, there are concerns regarding thunderstorms in the area, which could pose additional challenges to firefighting efforts and recovery. It is essential for personnel on the ground to remain vigilant as they continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the fire remains fully contained. Currently, only two personnel are assigned to the incident as ongoing assessment and maintenance of the containment are carried out.
