House Draw Fire (WYHPD)

Wildfire Status:

The House Draw Fire, currently active in Wyoming, has burned approximately 174,547 acres since its ignition on August 21, 2024, likely due to lightning strikes. As of September 6, 2024, the fire is 94% contained, with fire behavior described as minimal, featuring mainly creeping and smoldering activities. Interior unburned fuels, particularly in cottonwood trees, continue to burn, but the overall heat sources are decreasing, primarily due to the consumption of low elevation fuels. The fire response team consists of around 250 personnel who are currently focused on suppression repair activities.

Weather conditions are expected to play a crucial role in the fire's behavior. A weak cold front is anticipated to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms to the area, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph, which could potentially impact fire management efforts. The temperature is forecasted to drop to the upper 70s, with increased humidity levels between 35-45%. This cooler weather is expected to reduce the likelihood of new fire starts while allowing for continued consumption of interior fuels.

The incident is managed by the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5, led by Incident Commander Dave Gesser. The team is also overseeing several other fires in the region, including the Remington, Flat Rock, and Constitution Fires. As the situation develops, the team will continue to monitor weather conditions and adjust their strategies accordingly to ensure the safety of personnel and the effectiveness of suppression efforts.
