House Draw Fire (WYHPD)

Wildfire Status:

The House Draw Fire, which has been active since August 21, 2024, has burned approximately 174,547 acres and is currently 94% contained. Fire behavior has been minimal, with the fire primarily exhibiting creeping and smoldering activity as interior unburned fuels, such as cottonwood trees, continue to burn in drainage areas. The current estimation for full containment is September 9, 2024. A total of 250 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts, focusing on suppression repair activities.

Fire agencies have been actively managing the situation under the leadership of the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5, headed by Incident Commander Dave Gesser. In addition to the House Draw Fire, the team is also overseeing the Remington, Flat Rock, and Constitution Fires in the area. Firefighting efforts are supported by favorable weather conditions that are expected to persist, including a slight cooling trend that will help reduce the potential for new fire activity. However, the presence of isolated thunderstorms could introduce new risks, including wind gusts up to 40 mph and lightning.

Current weather conditions are characterized by a weak cold front moving through the region, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms. As of September 3rd, the forecast predicts daytime temperatures in the upper 70s and an increase in relative humidity levels, which could aid in fire suppression efforts. Light winds from the northwest are expected to maintain steady conditions, which will assist firefighters in their ongoing containment strategies.
