Lake Spokane Fire (WAWAS)

Wildfire Status:

The Lake Spokane Fire is currently active and has grown to 2,338 acres since it started on July 19, 2025. As of the latest update, only 16% of the fire's perimeter is contained, and fire behavior is being described as moderate, with instances of flanking, backing, and creeping. The fire poses a threat to nearby structures and is located in mixed terrain between Corkscrew Canyon and HWY 291, north of Spokane Lake.

Fire suppression efforts are robust, involving air attacks, dozers, strike team engines, and hand crews, with a total of 299 personnel on site. Several agencies, including the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Stevens County Fire District #1, and the U.S. Forest Service, are providing resources to combat the fire. Evacuation levels have been posted as a precautionary measure, reflecting the fluid nature of the situation due to changing weather and terrain conditions.

Weather forecasts indicate a warming and drying trend starting Wednesday, with afternoon and early evening breezes expected to potentially exacerbate fire activity. In the short term, there is a possibility of reduced fire growth due to anticipated shower activity; however, the underlying fuels remain unseasonably dry, which could lead to a resurgence in fire activity in the coming days.
