Bingham Fire (ORWIF)

Wildfire Status:

The Bingham Fire, which ignited on the evening of September 30, 2024, is currently active and has burned approximately 199 acres within the Mount Jefferson Wilderness, east of the Bingham Ridge Trailhead near Marion Forks. As of October 14, 2024, containment of the fire has reached 94%. The fire is primarily located in an area that has previously experienced wildfires, which may aid in containment efforts but also poses risks due to existing burn scars.

In response to the fire, the Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT) California Team 1 has been in command since October 6, 2024. Evacuations have been ordered by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, with a Level 3 "GO NOW!" alert affecting a significant portion of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness. Additionally, Level 2 "GET SET" evacuation alerts are in place for areas around the Marion Forks Campground and Fish Hatchery, extending along Highway 22. Despite these alerts, Highway 22 remains open at this time.

Recent weather conditions have favored firefighting efforts, contributing to a reduction in the emergency closure area as of October 10, 2024. The Willamette National Forest has reopened several popular recreation sites while maintaining restrictions for public safety, which are expected to remain in effect until January 1, 2025, unless altered sooner. Fire agencies are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared for potential changes in conditions as winter approaches.
