Dixon Fire (ORUPF)

Wildfire Status:

The Dixon Fire, which was first reported on August 10, 2024, is currently burning in Tiller, Oregon, covering approximately 1,970 acres. As of now, the fire is 87% contained, with ongoing efforts by local fire agencies to suppress it. The incident is being managed by Incident Commander Matt Howard and Deputy Incident Commander Dan Quinones from the Oregon Department of Forestry's Incident Management Team 2. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there are currently 411 personnel actively engaged in fighting the blaze.

Weather conditions have been favorable for firefighting efforts, with light winds and elevated humidity aiding containment efforts. Temperatures are currently in the 70s, and winds are expected to remain light from the west for the next couple of days. However, a Pacific storm system is forecasted to impact the area starting Thursday, bringing widespread showers and potentially isolated thunderstorms, which may further assist in controlling the fire by providing much-needed moisture.

Firefighting strategies include mop-up operations across all divisions and assessments for suppression repair where feasible. Plans are in place to transition to a Type 4 organization, marking a shift in the firefighting approach as the situation stabilizes. The estimated containment date for the fire is set for September 15, 2024, contingent upon weather conditions and fire behavior. As of now, the fire has shown minimal activity, providing some optimism for continued control efforts.
