Wildfire Status:
The Dixon Fire, which was first reported on August 10, 2024, at approximately 2:40 PM, is currently active and has consumed an area of 1,970 acres. The fire is located in Tiller, Oregon, and is situated within the jurisdictions of the Douglas Forest Protective Association, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the Tiller Rural Fire Protection District. As of now, 87% of the fire's perimeter has been contained, and local fire agencies expect to achieve full containment by September 15, 2024. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighting efforts have mobilized a total of 411 personnel who are actively engaged in suppression and mop-up operations across all divisions. The current strategy includes identifying and completing any necessary suppression repair while patrolling the area for potential new starts from lightning. Minimal fire activity has been reported, and the focus remains on ensuring the safety of the surrounding community and restoring the affected areas.
Weather conditions have been relatively favorable for firefighting, with light winds from the Pacific contributing to elevated humidity levels in the region. Temperatures have recently warmed into the 70s, and light winds from the west are expected to continue. However, significant changes in weather are anticipated as a Pacific storm system approaches, bringing widespread showers and the potential for isolated thunderstorms from Thursday through Saturday. This weather pattern is expected to aid firefighting efforts by providing moisture to the affected area, although some thunderstorms could pose additional challenges.
