Microwave Tower Fire (OR95S)

Wildfire Status:

The Microwave Tower Fire, which ignited on July 22, 2024, has burned approximately 1,313 acres of grass and timber near Mosier, Oregon. As of the latest reports, the fire is 95% contained. Firefighting efforts have been led by the Oregon Department of Forestry, alongside the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area Forest Service and local fire districts. Although the majority of the fire perimeter has been secured, crews are actively monitoring some remaining smoldering hotspots within the interior, which could still pose safety risks.

Weather conditions have played a significant role in firefighting efforts, with favorable conditions aiding containment strategies. However, smoke may still be visible from nearby areas, including Interstate 84, as crews conduct mop-up operations. The estimated date for full containment was projected for August 10, 2024, but the situation remains dynamic, and ongoing assessments are crucial. Currently, 21 personnel are assigned to manage the fire and ensure public safety.

In terms of public safety measures, area closures remain in effect on all National Forest System lands within the fire perimeter, as there are still hazards associated with smoldering hotspots. The incident management team plans to transition the fire response to local units, indicating that while significant progress has been made, vigilance will continue to be necessary in the coming days.
