Lava Fire (IDBOF)

Wildfire Status:

The Lava Fire, located on the Boise and Payette National Forests, has burned approximately 97,585 acres since it ignited from a lightning strike on September 2, 2024. As of now, 94% of the fire's perimeter has been contained, with ongoing efforts by local fire management officials to secure the remaining areas. The fire has merged with the Boulder Fire, complicating the incident management but allowing for a more consolidated response to the wildfire.

Currently, there are 189 personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts. The command of the incident has transitioned back to the Boise National Forest, and future updates will be provided through their official Facebook page. Fire behavior is primarily characterized by minimal creeping and smoldering due to damp conditions and lower fire spread potential, although smoke continues to be visible over parts of the fire area.

Weather conditions are expected to moderate further, with slightly warmer temperatures compared to previous nights and some windy conditions anticipated. A low-pressure system may bring light rain, although significant rainfall is not expected. This weather shift is expected to assist in maintaining the current fire footprint and potentially slow down fire behavior in the interior pockets where fuels are heavier. Over the next few days, cooler and drier weather is projected with high pressure returning to the region, which may help in controlling the fire's activity.
