Gold Complex (CAPNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Gold Complex wildfire, which encompasses the Mill and Smith Fires, was reported on July 22, 2024, following a lightning strike in the area. As of August 5, 2024, the fire has burned approximately 3,007 acres, with the Mill Fire 98% contained and the Smith Fire fully contained at 100%. The incident is being managed by a local Type 3 Team, with a total of 146 personnel currently engaged in firefighting efforts. Fire activity is minimal, characterized by smoldering and creeping, with crews focusing on mop-up operations to mitigate any potential escape.

In response to the wildfire, the California Complex Interagency Incident Management Team 10 took command of the incident on July 24, 2024, and is employing a full-suppression strategy. Firefighting resources include three crews, nine engines, one dozer, and helicopters available as needed. The containment efforts are geared towards fire suppression repair and further mop-up procedures across all divisions, with ongoing improvements to fire perimeter lines.

Weather conditions have shown a moderation in temperatures, with cooler weather and lighter winds observed recently. However, a warming and drying trend is expected to develop over the next few days, which could impact fire behavior. The area is experiencing seasonal moisture levels, but the presence of a heavy duff layer and numerous snags could pose challenges. Therefore, continued vigilance is necessary as the situation evolves.
